Spamalot - Update (The Black Knight)
The 'Black Knight' really has most theatre companies scratching their heads at the moment, and Charades are here to give a helping hand... or two!
Our 'Black Knight' costume comes with an easy-to-wear shoulder brace which the two prop arms are hung from.
The two prop arms are cleverly hidden by the knight's surcoat, and are hung from a loop inside the shoulder brace. The performer (who we all know has to use both arms at first to fight) releases the cord attached to the prop arm when the time comes to lose a limb - allowing the prop arm to drop to the floor. The performer then hides his own arm behind his back inside the surcoat. This is then repeated for the next arm.
When it is time to lose his legs, the 'Black Knight' stands behind a prop mannequin (not supplied) at the back of the stage (dressed in a replica surcoat available from Charades) - and then the 'Black Knight' can lose his legs without the performer even breaking a sweat!
